
Dr. Bilal Haq Director for Marine Geosciences of National
Science Foundation, USA, is world renowned geoscientist who received his Ph.D.
and D.Sc. degrees from the University of Stockholm in Sweden. He has conducted
research and/or taught at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, MIT, the
Universities of Stockholm, Paris, Oxford, Brest and the Exxon Production
Research Company .
Currently he is the Director f or marine geosciences at the
National Science Foundation in Washington and he has also held assignments with
the White House and the World Bank. Dr. Haq’s research has included many topics
in Earth and Ocean sciences and on global climate and sea-level change. He has
published extensively and authored or co-authored over 150 papers and books.
These papers are among some of the most cited in the field of Marine Geology.
He has been awarded the Francis Shepard Medal f or
excellence in Marine Geology by the Society f or Sedimentary Geology and was
elected a Fellow of the Geological Society of America in 1980 and a Fellow by
American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1996. He also received
the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Medal in 2009 Qingdao International
Ocean Economy Forum 2000 and the American Geophysical Union’s Ocean Science
Award for outstanding contributions in ocean sciences in 2004. His scientific
colleagues have honored him by naming a fossil species and a fossil genus after
him.
